Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2025

1. Acceptance of terms

By installing the Extralayer browser extension or using extralayer.io (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

Extralayer is a browser extension that allows users to analyse, verify, and discuss web content through perceptual hashing and community-powered annotations. Features include media analysis, trust scoring, comment threads, and voting on content authenticity.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. By using the Service you represent that you meet this requirement. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent.

4. User accounts

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
  • You must not share your account with others.
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised access at denis@extralayer.io.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or defamatory content
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or exploit the Service
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Upload malware or attempt to compromise our systems
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Manipulate trust scores or voting systems through coordinated inauthentic behaviour

6. User-generated content

You retain ownership of content you submit (comments, annotations, votes). By submitting content you grant Extralayer a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and distribute that content as part of the Service.

You are solely responsible for the content you post. We may remove content that violates these terms or applicable law without notice.

7. Intellectual property

All rights in the Service, including software, design, trademarks, and content created by Extralayer, are owned by or licensed to us. Nothing in these terms grants you any right to use our intellectual property beyond what is necessary to use the Service.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that analysis results will be accurate or complete. Content analysis is provided for informational purposes only.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Extralayer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed €100 or the amount you paid us in the preceding 12 months, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time for violation of these terms or for operational reasons, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

11. Changes to terms

We may modify these terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via the extension or email. Continued use after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the jurisdiction in which Extralayer is established. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in that jurisdiction, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer under applicable EU law.
