How do I install the Extralayer extension?+
Visit the Chrome Web Store and click "Add to Chrome". Once installed, the Extralayer icon will appear in your browser toolbar. Click it to open the side panel on any webpage.
What browsers are supported?+
Extralayer currently supports Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc). Firefox support is planned for a future release.
How does content analysis work?+
When you hover over an image or video on a webpage, Extralayer generates a perceptual hash — a compact fingerprint of the media. This hash is compared against our database to find matching content and its associated community context.
Does Extralayer upload my images or videos?+
No. Only the perceptual hash (a short numeric fingerprint) is sent to our servers — never the raw image or video. Your browsing content stays on your device.
What is a trust score?+
The trust score is a community-derived metric based on votes, source cross-references, and verified annotations. It reflects how the community collectively assesses the authenticity of a piece of content. It is not a definitive fact check.
How do I create an account?+
Click "Sign in" in the extension panel and authenticate with your Google account. An Extralayer account is created automatically on first sign-in.
How do I delete my account and data?+
Email us at denis@extralayer.io with the subject "Account deletion request". We will delete your account and associated personal data within 30 days as required by GDPR.
The extension isn't working on a particular site. What should I do?+
Some sites use strict content security policies that may limit extension functionality. Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, send us the URL at denis@extralayer.io and we'll investigate.
How do I report abusive or incorrect community content?+
Click the flag icon next to any comment or annotation in the extension panel. Our moderation team reviews reports within 48 hours.
Is Extralayer free?+
Yes, Extralayer is free to use. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but core functionality will remain free.
